Everything Bagel Hummus
I love experimenting with new hummus flavors and today’s Everything Bagel Hummus is no exception. But first, I have to come clean about the real reason I dig deep on making flavored hummus.
Years ago, when I lived in Alabama (Roll Tide, y’all!), one of my best friends was Lebanese and her mom’s hummus was always the most requested food at any gathering. It was just a simple, classic hummus—a combination of chickpeas, tahini, lemon, garlic and salt. But it was so smooth and creamy and divine that a big bowl of it would disappear within minutes. The flavors were so balanced that if I had never asked how she makes it, I couldn’t even begin to guess what was in it.
If you’ve ever had real, homemade hummus, made by an expert, you know that the stuff we buy at the store barely even resembles it.
To this day, I’ve never been able to replicate Hayat’s incredible hummus-from-heaven. Not even close. And to that end, I never try to make traditional hummus any more. Having tasted heaven, my classic hummus never cuts it. So I gave up years ago. Someday I’ll get lucky enough to stand in the kitchen with a hummus expert and really learn the tricks, but until then, it’s flavored hummus all the way!
So in the latest and greatest of crazy flavored hummus, this Everything Bagel Hummus is out of this world! It’s wildly easy and crazy delicious. And tastes just like an everything bagel thanks to the wicked popular Everything but the Bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s.
The one trick I do know about making creamy hummus is the ice water. When you start the whole process, add a cup of water in a glass to your freezer to really chill it down. Then once you have all your main ingredients combined in the food processor, grab your icy water and slowly drizzle it tablespoon by tablespoon into the processor while it’s running. This will bring your hummus together and give it that creamy, luscious texture.
Then spoon the hummus into a bowl and top with a drizzle of oil oil and a sprinkling with Everything Bagel seasoning. Dig in with bagel chips (duh!) or veggies, pretzels or pita.
- 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon tahini
- 2-3 tablespoons Everything Bagel seasoning
- 4 tablespoons ice water
In a food processor, add the rinsed chickpeas, olive oil, lemon juice, tahini and everything bagel seasoning. Turn on high and let combine for 1 minute, scraping down the sides as needed.
Slowly add the ice water tablespoon by tablespoon until the hummus is smooth. Blend another minute on high until hummus is entirely creamy.
