Think about it—turkey burgers are dry and in need of a little fat. So when we toss a bit of greek yogurt into the meat mixture—along with a whole boatload of southwestern-inspired spices—we end up with an uber-moist, seriously delicious Southwestern Turkey Burger that should win awards.
Plop it on a bun with a healthy swipe of mayo, some lettuce, tomato and onion, and a big dollop of smashed avocado and you have a killer weeknight dinner!
You're gonna want to make a double batch for leftovers later in the week!
The Best Southwestern Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons plain greek yogurt
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder
- salt and pepper
- olive oil spray optional
- 4 burger buns
- 2 tablespoons mayo or aioli
- 1 small vine tomato sliced
- red onion sliced
- 1/2 avocado smashed
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground turkey, greek yogurt, egg, breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chipotle powder and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands and form into 4 patties.
- Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and spray with olive oil. Place the patties in the hot pan and cook for 10 minutes, then flip and finish cooking for 5-8 minutes or until cooked through.
- Toast your buns and put together! Spread some mayo on the bottom bun, then top with a cooked turkey patty, add lettuce, onion, tomato, then add avocado to the top bun and serve!
