Grapefruit Margarita

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!  I’m not even going to try to comprehend how it’s already May, so we’re just going to celebrate with grapefruit margaritas!

June is the beginning of my favorite part of the year.  It’s simultaneously the busiest and most relaxing.  In upstate New York, we tend to hibernate for the first part of the year, then the warm weather hits and everyone wants to do everything immediately.  We have to grill and plant and go to the lake and picnic and wake up early for the farmers market and hike and stay out late cause it’s actually warm enough to sit out on a patio at midnight and go to the lake and attend festivals and concerts and on and on and on.  It’s the kind of busy worth celebrating!

Grapefruit Margaritas are one of our favorites to celebrate sunny afternoons.  Slightly sour and decently strong, these are easy to mix up and double/triple for company!  You could sugar the rim to balance the sour grapefruit, but I’m a salt girl through and through when it comes to margs.  Plus, I like things a little tart 🙂

Grapefruit Margaritas
makes 2 – 

You Will Need:

4 oz tequila (Hornitos Reposado is our fav, highly recommend!)
2 oz. triple sec
1 grapefruit, freshly squeezed
1 lime, halved
1 oz. simple syrup
salt or sugar to serve
ice

In a cocktail shaker filled 1/2 with ice, pour the tequila, triple sec, 1/2 grapefruit juice, 1/2 lime squeezed, and the simple syrup.  Shake until frosty.  Rim glasses with salt or sugar, fill with ice, and pour. Pucker up!
