Don’t wait for an excuse to make margaritas… but if you’re looking for one, grab a giant bag of grapefruits next time you’re at the store and you’ll have a built-in reason to make grapefruit margaritas!
While I’ll never turn down a margarita of just about any flavor combination, grapefruit margaritas are our go-to at home. We love the tart-sweetness from the grapefruit juice and find that the grapefruit version goes a bit further than your traditional lime margarita (given that a grapefruit produces at least 3x as much juice as a lime!). And we’re all about the long-game when it comes to margarita making!
Whip up a quick batch this weekend and snuggle in with a bowl of guac and chips! These grapefruit margaritas only require a few ingredients, most of which you likely have on hand. For the tequila, we absolutely love Hornitos Reposado because it’s super smooth, reasonably priced and really tasty.
They’re slightly sour and decently strong, these grapefruit margaritas are easy to mix up and double/triple for company. You could sugar the rim to balance the tartness, but personally I’m a salt girl through and through…
- 4 oz tequila
- 2 oz. triple sec
- 1 grapefruit freshly squeezed
- 1 lime halved
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- salt or sugar to serve
In a cocktail shaker or pitcher, add a few big handfuls of ice, tequila, triple sec, grapefruit juice and lime juice. Shake or stir until well-combined and frosty.
Rim glasses with salt or sugar, fill with ice, and pour. Pucker up!
