This Basil Peach Whiskey Cocktail highlights the fruits of summer in a light, refreshing sip! Combining just a few simple ingredients to let each of them shine on their own!
When it comes to cocktails made at home, simple is best (IMO). I can't be bothered with fancy mix-ins, long ingredient lists or crazy concoctions. Save that for the professionals!
So while I like to keep a nicely stocked bar (for emergencies!), it's filled with just the basics. Liquors that we like - vodka, gin, tequila, whiskey - and just a couple special items for making our favorites or for cooking like Grand Marnier and Triple Sec (heyy margaritas!).
How I brainstorm new cocktail ideas
When I go to create a new cocktail, I always start with the highlight ingredient and choose the liquor that I'd like to try to mix it with. I do a light test with a bit of the liquor and a bit of the ingredient to make sure that they're a match.
Then I build from there. Does it need an aromatic element (read: something herbal or unexpected that's typically hanging around the kitchen)? Maybe some bubbles? And more than likely, a little ice?
And that's about it!
So this Basil Peach Whiskey Cocktail started from a few juicy peaches. And I knew I wanted to create a whiskey cocktail. I personally like Rye Whiskey, but peach and whiskey or bourbon are a match made in heaven, so use whatever you like or have around!
Then, I'd been pairing peach with thyme and basil all week long while I was playing around with new recipe ideas in the kitchen. At first I tried this cocktail with thyme, but it just wasn't punchy enough. The next night, I gave it a shot with a few sprigs of basil and bam! Late summer in a glass.
Ingredients for this Basil Peach Whiskey Cocktail
Peaches
Basil
Sugar
Whiskey
Soda Water
Give it a good shake and pour over ice. Top with just a splash of seltzer and you're all set. Easy enough to make on repeat as long as peach season lasts!

Basil Peach Whiskey Cocktail
Ingredients
- 2 peaches pitted and quartered
- 3 sprigs fresh basil
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 3 oz. whiskey
- ice
- soda water
- peach slices for garnish
- small basil sprig for garnish
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker, add the peach quarters, basil sprigs and sugar. Muddle lightly to break down the peach, but don't crush the basil too much.
- Add in the whiskey and fill with ice. Shake until frosty on the outside.
- Fill low-ball glasses with crushed ice and pour half the contents of the cocktail shaker into each. Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a slice of peach and a small sprig of basil.
